This was a well-done initial novel in a multi-part series. Plot- and character-driven, with glimpses of a world and peoples (including non-human sentient beings) whose origins and motivations remain questions for presumed resolution in the next books. Enough was provided to the reader to anticipate eagerly the next volume; "what is going on here and why" is much more important to the book than swords and sorcery - although swords are indeed significant as is this world's version of "magic," which is an imperfect term for the powers accessible to the protagonists.

Paul's characters come alive in his riveting story of a tough future world. I found myself really wanting for reading on to the next chapter in need of knowing what could and would happen next. I have a daughter and I love the strong leading characters that are ladies.
So I am hooked for the next follow up series!

Good read! What caught my attention right away was the strong female character. I really liked her, she is the kind of lead I want to follow; a very determined and strong woman. She’s trying to adjust and understand this new world around her. The book has a very good pace that complements well with the introduction of the new world itself, the creatures and all the supernatural.

I was very into this storyline, the fast pace and simple vocabulary made this read fly by.
Overall, I think it is a great first book and I’m eager to see what the author has in store for the next one!

This book creates a fantasy world that is of mystery and purpose. It introduces a story where power, responsibility, and destiny are really connected. From the beginning, you feel that the sword and the channel have an interesting and strong meaning that goes beyond magic or adventure.

What I liked is how the story reveals the world and the role the characters have in protecting it. The idea of being a keeper has a special and strong sense of duty, which makes the journey feel important and meaningful. While reading, I felt curious about how the world works and what role each character will play in the future of the saga. I can't wait to read the next book.

The story in this book is fantastic from the very first page. Right from the beginning, I was amazed by the detailed way the protagonist and all the other characters are presented, as well as how vividly the author describes the settings. The storytelling is so immersive that you truly feel as if you are living inside the story, and it becomes impossible to stop reading.

What I loved most about the book is that it blends action and mystery so well, allowing you to follow the protagonist on a journey through new worlds, powerful creatures, and great challenges.

I do not want to spoil the ending, but it definitely leaves you wanting to know more and more about the story and this incredible world filled with fascinating creatures and characters.

Really, really good story and plot!!

Third book in the series and the whole series was a good read. Philosophical and action packed with slight politics. Definitely for older teens/young adults as there is quite a bit of violence. A good series to read.

I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed the world the author built. The Discipline, Receptors, Channels, and the political drama behind the “Magic Slayer’s” genocidal shenanigans. Oh My… The author even takes time to make sure that everyone’s relationships (siblings, lovers, cousins) are tracked. Top tier.
The pacing was a little hanky when it came to the details during the troop movements. Like everything else the author gave tremendous details to that as well down to exact soldier counts and formation reshuffling. But if you like to be all in the know and let your imagination hold space for that, then he gave you what you need, if not, then that might be a bit much for you.

I picked up book one on a whim and honestly wasn't sure the series would hold my attention through a sequel, but book two won me over completely. Jalinda's warparty already felt formidable by the end of book one, and watching them get tested against new lands and unfamiliar people here raises the stakes in a way that never feels forced. The thief chase could have gotten repetitive, another chapter of "they got away again," but the cost of the pursuit is handled with real weight, victories don't come free and the warparty pays for every mile. What I liked most is how the scope quietly widens, what started as recovering a stolen item becomes something the entire world's balance hinges on, even though most characters in it have no idea yet. Jalinda herself grows into someone more aware of the bigger picture than she was in book one, which makes her a more compelling lead this time around. If you enjoyed the unusual abilities and world building of book one, this expands both without losing what made the first book fun. Now anxiously waiting on book three to see if they finally catch him
